NBJ Consulting & Conflict Resolution

In 1997 Nancy Byerly Jones and her husband, Bob, established NBJ Consulting & Conflict Resolution, a management consulting and mediation service firm. Having previously practiced law and having served as management counsel for the N.C. State Bar, Nancy’s consulting work and seminars focus primarily on law firms and corporate legal departments. The company, however, has had the pleasure of providing services to other individuals and businesses as well.

The company’s home base was formerly located in the beautiful Europa Center of Chapel Hill, North Carolina , home of the country’s oldest public university, the University of North Carolina . Today, Nancy Byerly Jones & Associates, Inc. is located in the beautiful mountains of northwestern North Carolina with retreat facilities in Banner Elk, NC and offices in Boone , NC .

Through the years, Nancy and Bob have established an experienced group of independent project consultants. These highly experienced individuals assist them when necessary in forming a strong network of experts who work together to successfully meet their clients’ needs. The company continues to develop and expand its group of expert strategic alliances. As a result, NBJ Consulting & Conflict Resolution has earned a steady stream of repeat clients and highly complimentary feedback.

Over time more and more clients noted the advantages of meeting with Nancy in her offices rather than their own. Of course, on-site visits are often preferred and necessary, but clients recognize the benefits of meeting with Nancy and her associates away from the busyness of their own offices. They have found that by getting away and meeting in a comfortable and informal atmosphere that they are able to accomplish much more than if they were meeting in their offices with their endless to-do lists and interruptions. It did not take long for Nancy and Bob’s design and facilitation of getaway retreats for their clients to grow more and more popular.

For an assortment of reasons — because of the success stories resulting from effective planning retreats, because of client feedback regarding the value of office retreats and because of their personal love for the beautiful North Carolina mountains — Bob and Nancy made the big move from Chapel Hill to Banner Elk, NC during the summer of 1999. After settling into log cabin living, they began establishing a mountainside ranch (one of their lifelong dreams) and a conference and retreat center for their clients.

The company continues to develop and teach continuing education seminars and to offer mediation and management consultation services for bar associations and in client offices across the U.S. as Nancy ’s schedule permits. Their mountainside retreat center, however, is their primary service focus and is definitely the most popular client option. Also, Nancy returned to the practice of law in 2003 on a limited basis which occupies a significant portion of her schedule along with her ever-growing mediation and arbitration work. All three of Nancy ’s other work areas (law practice, mediation and arbitration) contribute greatly to her skills, understanding and practice management knowledge as a consultant to legal offices and firms nationwide.

Clients and their families also enjoy visiting Bob and Nancy ‘s horse and donkey farm (“Little Hee Haw Farm”) where they enjoy fun-filled cookouts, hiking, horseback and donkey (sometimes known by other more colorful names!) riding and endless laughs with the miniature donkeys. The gentleness, love, great sense of humor, remarkable intelligence and fun offered by these precious little animals offers smiles and good times for everyone. The Little Hee Haw Farm family celebrated the birth of its first foal on the ranch at 3:15 a.m. on March 12, 2006, a Paso Fino colt with the barn name of Silly Willie “B.”

Nancy and Bob are indeed realizing and living their dream of creating an informal oasis of peacefulness in which their clients can meet, strategize, reach win-win resolutions, learn, relax, play and regroup. And the biggest reward of all is seeing the company’s motto come to life through their clients’ success stories.
